Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University earlier known as Awadh University was established on 25 July 1975 in Faizbad district of Uttar Pradesh for providing quality higher education to people living within its reach in particular and to all in general. After 10 years of its establishment the university got the status of residential university. The University GrantsCommission (UGC), New Delhi has defined Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia AvadhUniversity as an affiliating university.

The university is also eligible to receive financial assistance from University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. The university provides affiliation to colleges for offering courses at under graduate level. At campus level, the university offers many numbers of courses, arts, science, commerce, etc. The courses are offered both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

At campus level the University has been conducting Under Graduate / Post Graduate studies and researches in the disciplines of Economics, Mathematics & Statistics, Bio-Chemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Sciences and M.B.A. Besides, the subjects of Extension Education & Rural Development, Mass Communication & Journalism, M.S.W., Library Science and Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.), P.G. Diploma in fashion designing are also running campus.
