Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University earlier known as Awadh University was established on 25 July 1975 in Faizbad district of Uttar Pradesh for providing quality higher education to people living within its reach in particular and to all in general. After 10 years of its establishment theuniversity got the status of residential university. The University GrantsCommission (UGC),New Delhi has defined Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia AvadhUniversity as an affiliating university.
Avadh University schemes 2011 are available for Main Exam B.A Part (I/II/III), Main Exam B.Com Part (I/II/III), Main Exam B.Sc Part (I/II/III) & B.Sc Agriculture-Part (I/II/III/IV) & B.Sc Home Science-Part (I/II/III), B.Lib/M.Lib/Post Garduate Diploma in Fashion Designing/M.C.J/Extension Education & Rural Development, M.A Part (I/II), M.Com Part (I/II) and M.Sc Part (I/II).

Avadh University, situated in Faizabad, was renamed as Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University by the Government of Uttar Pradesh to honor the great socio-economic ideologue and freedom fighter. Several affiliated colleges of the University distributed over 9 districts of Faizabad, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Ambedkarnagar, Barabanki, Balrampur, Baharaich, Shravasti and Gonda add to the magnitude of the university. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University has been declared eligible to receive the financial grants of UGC.
